🌟 Supergiant Stars Simulated in Houdini

This is one of my R&D projects created for the film His Master’s Voice: a visual exploration of six different types of supergiant stars.

Since the Sun is the only star we can observe up close in detail, our understanding of other stars relies heavily on theoretical models and spectral data. The goal here was to present different visual concepts of what these stellar giants might look like, combining scientific inspiration with artistic interpretation.

All simulations were done in Houdini, using a range of techniques:
☄️ Volume simulations for internal turbulence and stellar atmosphere
Plasma and magnetic field setups to drive surface activity and flares
🔥 Custom shading to express heat, radiation, and energetic matter flows

These simulations were later integrated into the film as background elements, but they also stand on their own as a conceptual visualization of cosmic phenomena we can’t yet directly observe — not even with our best telescopes.
